Chinoiserie by Francois Boucher in the year 1750. Like other French artists of his time, Boucher was intrigued by figures in Chinese costume. This piece of 'chinoiserie' shows an old man sitting with a fishing rod and a boy holding up a parasol. A Chinese lady lies sweet talking the man. In the background is a pagoda. The painting was possibly intended for the boudoir of Madame de Pompadour in Château Bellevue.
